Country Day School is a private, non-sectarian, English-language school with a present enrollment of 920 students in grades Daycare-12. The school, which is a proprietorship founded in 1963, emphasizes excellence in achievement, character, and citizenship and stresses traditional moral values and a structured learning environment.

The school is located on an 8-acre campus with modern facilities in the suburb of Escazú, about seven kilometers west of San José. The Guanacaste campus (15 acres) is located 160 miles northwest of San José, outside the village of Brasalito, less than a mile from world class Pacific beaches.    In addition to the requisite degrees, credentials, and recommendations, Country Day School seeks teacher candidates with outstanding ability who place child before self, and have a desire to learn Candidates should also have a great amount of stamina, and they should be willing to make contributions to the students beyond normal expectations. Dedicated, self-motivated, flexible, tolerant, patient, giving, caring, enthusiastic, and open-minded are desriptors of the professional Country Day School seeks. Quality professional behavior and a teaching philosophy consonant with Country Day School's values and goals guarantee candidates a successful tenure at Country Day School.   Our parent body is made up of a community who considers education of the greatest importance and who want their children to receive a rigorous English-language education based on United States curricula. The parents are usually corporate executives, members of international organizations, embassy staff, and private business persons. They are actively involved and demonstrate a keen interest in the school and in their children's education.

The positives of living and working in Costa Rica do outweigh the negatives. Costa Rica is one of the most stable democracies in Latin America. The army was abolished at mid-century and today the government assigns over 20% of the national budget to public education and culture. The natural beauty of national parks, beaches, and volcanic mountain ranges coupled with an average temperature range in the Central Valley of 72F year round make Costa Rica an inviting place to live and work. Life is slower paced, people take adversity in stride, and live one day at a time. Added to this, Costa Ricans are friendly, helpful, and kind to newcomers and are people who value freedom, peace, and democracy.

Finally, working at Country Day School is a unique opportunity for the committed professional educator to teach and make a difference in the lives of young people who will be tomorrow's citizens and leaders. Country Day School students are highly talented and motivated, willing and able to learn, and bring to the classroom a wealth of multicultural experiences.
