Dear Faculty, Staff, Parents, Teachers, and Students
On behalf of the entire school community, and after a worldwide search that drew some 35 applications through Search Associates, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Greg L. MacGilpin, Jr., has been chosen as our new School Director effective August 2010. Greg has a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration from Columbia University, New York, New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York. Greg has served at private independent schools for 16 years, including four years at Bancroft School in Worcester, Massachusetts (1994-1997), first as a Kindergarten teacher and then a Sixth Grade Teacher, a two-year term as Middle School Teacher here at Country Day School (1997-1997), and a three-year term as History Department Chair at Peck School (2000-2003), Morristown, New Jersey. Greg also worked as Admissions Counselor at Columbia while completing his Masters and as Dean of New Jersey S.E.E.D.S, a prep program for inner city youth in Newark, NJ. For the past seven years Greg has served as a senior administrator at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, Connecticut as Middle School Division Head and High School Division Head. Greg meets every measure to qualify him for the position of Country Day School Director. His recommendations from former school heads, past and present , including Mr. Tim Carr, CDS Director (1999-2004), Dr. Paul Maxfield, CDS Middle School Principal (1995-2003), and his present Headmaster, Mr. John Fixx, at Chase Collegiate, are among the best I have ever seen. Greg is committed to standards of excellence and has a proven track record as a teacher and administrator. As his career path indicates, leading independent schools such as Country Day School is his passion and he is thrilled at the opportunity to be a part of our community. Along the way he has acquired extensive experience in private American schools and gained experience in school finances, marketing and promotion, teacher recruitment, technology integration, curriculum design, assessment, coaching, and global school issues. He is undoubtedly qualified to assume the position as Director of Country Day School. Greg is married to Melissa Macomber and has three daughters: Sydney, age 8 months; Mallory, age 3; and Abigail, age 6. Melissa is a graduate of Columbia University School of Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Connecticut and lived in Costa Rica during Greg’s tenure. The MacGilpin family will visit the school campus in the near future to meet faculty, staff, parents, teachers, and students. I take great pride in welcoming Greg, and know you will all join me in wishing him much happiness and success in his new position at Country Day School. Sincerely yours, Woodson C.
