Country Day School was founded in 1963 with eight original students studying an American curriculum in a small rented house in downtown San Jose. The school's identity was clear: to provide small classes to students who desired an American education in an international setting. The school grew and changed locations several times, and was acquired by Woodson C. Brown in 1971. The Brown family continues to operate the school today. Country Day is internationally recognized as a leader in the region in providing excellence, diversity, and inclusiveness in a beautiful modern campus.
Today, with high expectations for engaged learning and a culture where students seek personal excellence in every pursuit, CDS helps each community member become responsible citizens for their communites and the world.
As CDS continues its over 50-year journey, we value each decade and each learner whose personal story betters our own. With 875 students, over 200 faculty and staff, countless parents contributing daily to the school's legacy and the world around us, we can only be encouraged, humbled and motivated to keep learning together for the sake of our students' borderless future.
Our Mission: Country Day School, a U.S. accredited college preparatory school serving an international community, inspires a passion for learning and provides children with the skills, values, and courage to become responsible leaders in their communities and the world.
