SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

Country Day School, founded in 1963, is a private, college-preparatory school enrolling 850 students in Preschool through Grade 12.  There are approximately 200 students in the high school.  Thirty percent of the students at Country Day School are United States citizens, thirty percent Costa Rican citizens, and forty percent citizens from all parts of the globe.  Country Day School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Costa Rican Ministry of Education.  Both the U.S. High School and the Costa Rican Baccalaureate programs are offered and diplomas are awarded for each.  Students in the high school pursue a U.S. - based curriculum.  The language of instruction is English, and the average class size is 20.

GPA AND RANK

GPA is calculated over a three-year period of grades 10-12.  Only approved courses taken at Country Day School are calculated into the GPA. All online courses attached to the transcripts are from fully accredited providers.  Due to the small number of students in the class and the multicultural and varied scholastic backgrounds of our population, we do not rank our students.  
 

AP AND HONORS COURSES

Country Day School offers the following AP courses: Art, Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Comparative Government, English Language, English Literature, Human Geography, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Psychology, Physics Part I, Statistics, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, U.S. History and World History.  In addition, Country Day School offers the following honors courses: Integrated Math III, Pre-Calculus, English 10, Physics, and Chemistry.
 

COSTA RICAN BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM

The Costa Rican Baccalaureate program (grade 12) is the Costa Rican Ministry of Education’s secondary school credential.  This program and diploma enables students to study at universities in Costa Rica.
 

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Country Day School offers extracurricular activities such as band, choir, community service, Model UN, Student Council, digital photography, broadcast journalism and yearbook.  Sports include soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross country, and swimming.


NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Students with a minimum average of 90 % in all courses over the three previous quarters are candidates for the National Honor Society.  Students demonstrating scholarship, leadership, character and service are candidates for membership selection.
